The only thing Jared Kushner is trying to do is profit from this crisis as much as humanly possible, just like his felonious father would have done and just like his father in law, President Satan’s Anus, is also doing.

The fucking US political press needs to stop fucking normalizing these Republican criminal motherfuckers.

There is an entire corner of my FB feed - mostly younger and not especially well-informed people I know through a non-political hobby - who are riding the “Biden is a rapist and I won’t vote for him” train REALLY hard tonight.

I think they’re more noise than action, and in western NY our votes are meaningless anyway, but it still pisses me off that the ratfucking has worked THAT well.

Back in the day (2012) my idiotic state rep, Alan Clemmons really went all in on zombie voters:

“We must have certainty in South Carolina that zombies aren’t voting.”

And we were off to the races—

Stoking the zombie-voter fire back then was a list of some 950 names that Republican Gov. Nikki Haley’s DMV director, Kevin Shwedo, said were those of dead people that appeared to have voted in recent elections.

“Well over 900 individuals appear to have voted after they died,” Shwedo said at one House hearing on the matter.

For a while last year, you couldn’t turn on Fox News without seeing S.C. GOP Attorney General Alan Wilson saying things like, “We know for a fact that there are deceased people whose identities are being used in elections in South Carolina.”

A year and a half after a zombie voter fever fell over Republicans in campaign mode, a state police investigation found no indication that anyone purposefully cast a ballot using the name of a dead person in South Carolina.

South Carolina—too small for a republic, too large for an insane asylum.

Yeah, the case reports for this all read the same: Cletus McBumbleFuck the 3rd of SisterFuck Nowhere, avid Fox News viewer for the last 30 years, whose family tree is spindly where it doesn’t have loops, votes multiple times to try to counteract the imaginary ‘millions of illegal votes cast by Democrats.’

I know this is idiots being led by GOP/Russian ratfuckers, but if the accusations vs. Biden are accepted at face value, then the far more numerous and credible accusations vs. Trump must also be accepted. That makes Biden the better choice even if this is turned into a farcical single-issue thing.

The more recent Nails efforts tend more towards busy-buzzy-angry and the lyrics just don’t pop for me. But yeah, you can’t really do much better for sheer glory in heavily-constructed music.

My favorite album is With Teeth

It only has the one true single on it but EVERYTHING just rolls.

If you want pure rage at (Bush43-era) Republicanism, track down Year Zero (and its remix album is one of the best too). You almost wish for the hand from the sky some days…

Except it doesn’t have to. Just as with emails. For the American voting public, what matters is what they see on TV every day. The accusations don’t have to make sense. They don’t have to hold up to even the slightest scrutiny. As long as talking heads on the screen convey the right emotions, that’s the reality.

I saw Nine Inch Nails at Numbers in Houston in 1991, it was when “Down in It” was getting all the airplay. That album to this day is awesome. They did a few “practice” gigs before Lollapalooza, and we saw them for like ten bucks. For a show, Numbers can probably hold maybe 1,000 people. They absolutely tore the roof off that motherfucker, still one of the greatest shows I ever saw.

Hey.

That $2.2 trillion dollar bailout package for small businesses? Guess what it includes?

501(c)3 and 501(c)19 organisations (not-for-profits and veterans organisations).

Know who else is included in the bill as far as 501(c)3? Churches.

As long as a church does not openly discriminate during the term of the loan, they may get a Small Business Administration loan.

And, because the loans are structured in such a way that the government will be quite forbearing if it is not paid back, that means free tax money for churches.

Wanna know what charitable organisations are not eligible for such loans?

Secular ones.

The SBA has a bonkers FAQ directly explaining this.

Mike Pence Gonna Pay Pastors As Small ‘Businesses’ Because Isn’t That What A Church Is? (Wonkette)

Indeed. I haven’t made a deep dive into the numbers, but nationwide it is impossible for the outbreak to be slowing down because social distancing hasn’t been in place long enough in enough of the country.

What is encouraging is that places in the country that have acted earliest are seeing some benefit from that.

https://ourworldindata.org/covid-testing

Scroll down a little ways for a very nice graph after long discussion of why this is important. I’m adding this to my bookmarks.

That said, it’s totally plausible that CA (especially!) and NY stomping hard on things could level off the acceleration, and the rest of the country will hot-spot it up to start things going. Honestly I feel like much of the country is at like 40%-60% social distancing. No way to judge if that’s enough, though the CDC transmission rate estimates this morning were a punch in the gut.

Actually the US already has the worst in the developed world, if not the entire world. I assume China has worse, and once it really outbreaks in India or Brazil, or God forbid, someplace like Bangladesh, that will be catastrophic, but for now, the US is worse than most anyplace else. Italy and Spain are hurting, but their death curve is bending down significantly - doubling rates are up to 10 days or so. When they were at 14.5k deaths, the same place the US is now, those doubling rates had already slowed to over a week. The US rate is still at 5 days, and the daily deaths is still increasing. And it hasn’t even really started in Florida yet, or another highly populated city like Atlanta.

When India moved to block export of the medication except for legitimate purposes, Trump threatened Modi with retaliation in a phone call yesterday. That’s why Modi reversed his government’s position.

How does the US compare vs the EU as a whole? Wouldn’t that be more of an apples to apples comparison as far as population numbers go? Also, unfortunately also comparable in disparity between response between member states.

Here’s a link to the WaPo map where you can choose whether to view total cases/deaths or view cases/deaths per 100K population. They have a US map by states too.

And then stupidity continues elsewise - Wisconsin man time - a local Township board member was busted for meth trafficking. Not using but trafficking. I can have sympathy for the ones who fall into that hell drug but I have none for those who push it.

mmmirele  Apr 8, 2020 • 8:01:36pm

I hate big pharma, I hate insurance companies and I hate pharmacy benefit managers.

I have a drug, I’ve been taking it the better part of a decade: Dexilant, 1 capsule, 60 mg once a day. It is the one drug that keeps down my acid reflux. Apparently it is no longer covered under my employer’s insurance. So, instead of paying, say, $150.00 for a prescription that is not on the formulary, I am tossed to the damned wolves and have to pay out of pocket.

Express Scripts, the pharmacy benefit manager, says they can fill the prescription for $998/90 capsules, which works out to $11.09/capsule. They did not like me cussing them out when I told them what they could do with that.

Takeda, the manufacturer, will give me a discount that brings the cost to $745.80, or $8.29/capsule. Not good, Takeda, not good.

GoodRx offers a coupon that brings the cost down to $622.64 or $6.92/capsule.

This is completely ridiculous. This is a necessary medication for me, in the sense that I have gone to the ER with chest pains that turned out to be acid reflux, they were that bad. And oh, I can appeal this, but HEY, I have to get my doctor involved, it took me 10 days and two tries to get their attention on this refill, so you know how successful that’s going to be right now. I don’t have to mention “pandemic,” “isolation” and all that, right?

Thing is, I can gut it up and buy this medication, and probably will, because, to be blunt, I don’t ever want to be writhing in that much pain ever again. But I think about the people who are rationing insulin because Humalog, etc., has gone through the roof and it’s like, we’re all being screwed out here. And of course, my congressman doesn’t give a flying fuck about his constituents, but would rather promote Boeing making masks and Procter & Gamble (seriously, yesterday it was Boeing, today, P&G). Not helpful, Andy Biggs, not helpful. I bet your congressional insurance covers my drugs.

I’m just having to get used to the idea that I will have to shell out $622.64 to buy a prescription that has cost me only $150 to fill in the past. Fuck.

*And, theoretically, there’s been an FDA approved generic for nearly three years, but it’s still unavailable.

People still too slow in figuring out how this aerosol transmission thing works

And when you’re threatened (blackmailed) with Hell (however your church defines that: literal burning, separation from God, &c), you have a powerful incentive to go to church.

It’s a perfectly circular argument: If you don’t get sick at all, then God spared you. If you do get sick but recover with the care of medical doctors and nurses trained by humans and backed with technology built by humans, then God saved you (not the doctors and nurses and engineers, &c).

If you die, then God needed an “angel” or whatever to be called home.

In my last hand surgery, a VA doctor asked me after I’d been given sleeping medications but before I slept if I wanted him to pray with me before he began surgery. (It’s marked in my chart I an an atheist, so he wanted to prey on me, not pray with me.)

I was clear that I put my trust in his skill and training as a physician and surgeon, and that was good enough for me.

By contrast, the hospital chaplain came round before I went to surgery. He just asked how I was doing and if he could do anything for me such as carry a message to my wife waiting outside.

Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. It’s on the Japan Sea. When I went on the tour last May, we stayed in a hotel/ryokan there for a couple of days. The weather went from rainy to sunny and I took pictures every few hours. Hagi isn’t an easy place to get to these days, you have to take a train to Yamaguchi city and then a bus to Hagi. Interestingly, despite being rather isolated, Hagi was the center of pro-imperial activity at the end of the Edo period, when Japan was ruled by the shogunate. We went to a shrine for Yoshida Shoin, who was highly influential upon a group of young men who became part of the Meiji Restoration. Hagi City also has one of the nicest small museums I’d ever been to, and it REALLY awoke in me a desire to learn Japanese so I could read the labels on the displays. (The English labels were somewhat lacking.)

Really awkward. They were showing genuine concern for my well being, but it was delivered in a majorly passive-aggressive “Fuck you for not believing in God” way. It was more important to them force their God down my throat at one of the worst times in my life.

I can’t imagine would it have been like if I lived in an area like the Bible Belt.

challenging everyone to post a photo you’ve taken from a place you’ve been. The only thing is that you do not appear in it.

Easy for me - I’ve taken thousands of photos on our vacations, and I’d say less than 1% of them have anything more than my reflection in them. I actively try to ‘de-populate’ my photos, even in big cities. If I’m taking a shot, I try to wait until everyone moves out of the frame to snap it.

It’s taking a metric fuckton of self-restraint to not jump in the truck and drive into Manhattan. The photos I’m seeing of that normally bustling city, free of traffic and people - it’s tempting me to go and take some of my own.

My tradition has had the prayer book for this reason for centuries. God doesn’t need bunches of people shoved like sardines into a can; those who only live for offerings, well, they aren’t the same thing despite what your hate tells you to believe.

We did a smart thing in Austin. We shut down SXSW a week before it was to start. Cost the City $300,000,000. Then we shut the City down, as far as restaurants and bars, and similar spaces were concerned. No music, which absolutely sucks.

Our job losses right right now are in the multiple tens of thousands.

The businesses affected have responded, as much as they can. Restaurants are delivering at their doors, if they can. We order from Uchi each Thursday, our usual date night there, and our delivery bag says “We miss you!” We tip them 25%.

And we miss them, and our friends and neighbors.

And that’s the thing. There is a certain fundamental loneliness that both She Who Must Be Obeyed and I deeply feel.

We know why it is necessary, but at a certain level it is beginning to sap at our souls.

Don’t get me wrong, we aren’t going to check out together, but it’s just heartbreaking that we all, everyone, have to suffer through this hell.

Ya no.

Sin is an offence against a god. I do not believe in a god.

And not, disdain, disbelief, and dislike are not “hate,” no matter how many times you try to convince yourself it is.

“Go ahead and run away like you always do when you stand up.”

Gee, no hate there, not at all.

I’m not running away. I am leaving a discussion because I have better things to do than be insulted.

I notice you skipped over the part where my physician ignored my chart and tried to initiate prayer (which is not his job as a government employee but who cares about separation of Church and State), but the chaplain who is also a Christian simply asked what he could do for me and if he could pass a message to my wife.

So yes, I will take a break from here, because I don’t need you preaching “sinner” at me either. You know, something the minister of the church across the street from my house has never done.

Sin is an offence against a god.

Maybe in some traditions.

In Judaism, sin is absolutely an offense against a person or persons. On the Day of Atonement, yes we pray and fast and ask God’s forgiveness for anything we’ve done or not done to piss him off, but we’re also required to apologize to any people we’ve hurt, by saying/doing things we shouldn’t’ve, or not saying/doing things we should’ve. We have apologize to them, for things we remember and things we don’t, ask for forgiveness, and if possible atone.

My Ladyfriend has worked as a Hospital Chaplain. She is amazingly courageous in ways I could not be.

One of the things they must handle everyday are many different belief systems/religions of hospital patients and staff. She came to her hospital and spent all night tracking down a chaplain of the appropriate Buddhist tradition for a family whose teenage son had passed away at the hospital. She did the same for a very ill Wiccan.

She has also spent hours at the bedside of a terminally ill patient so that patient would not die alone.

Yes, there are always a few chaplains that cannot seem escape their own belief system, or for that matter, themselves. But almost all chaplains that I have met have made it a priority to listen to, understand, respect, and honor the needs of those whom they are pledged to care for.

Salon did a fairly even-handed article that lays out the case for why the whole “The media is suppressing this!” bit is likely BS, as is the accusation that Trust Us rejected representing her as a political “favor” to Biden. And yeah, that also means taking the piss out of the accusations that she’s a “Russian agent,” which I never really bought into though her rip-sawing between love and hate of Putin doesn’t help her case.

The discrepancies in her multiple versions of her story would be enough to invoke skepticism in me, but her lack of legal representation (she only wants a lawyer to run PR for her, not to take actual action against Biden), the fact that the only people who she says will back up her story are a brother and a friend who have only talked to pro-Bernie publications, and the additional discrepancies in her political advocacy (foreign and domestic) leads me to conclude that there’s something more below the surface. And that this stinks too much of Burisma, of someone wanting an investigation started for the purpose of saying Biden’s being investigated.

I doubt it was Fauci - who I think is just tolerated for briefings because Trump has been told Fauci should be there. I think someone within his campaign structure somehow worded things so that he understood not being open at Easter would not be good for reelection purposes or his own bank account.

And don’t worry, that statement about Easter will be denied or goal-posted into something else within the next two days along with things being the fault of Biden and Obama. Prompted by my defending the reveal in one of my Usenet trawls that the Spirited Away translators had misunderstood “seal” in the original because they’d never heard of sealing a document:

For me? I’ll bet into high school if not college. If you’re under some age I’m not sure of but is greater than 45, you just don’t run across clay seals, and wax to press them in, outside of tangential discussions in, say, history class.

re: #239 Chrysicat

If you watch enough Korean or Japanese dramas you will see where your personal seal is needed for legal documents. Or if you read the Vorkosegan books where it deals with seals and blood used as the agent. And of course the period films where you see them write with a quill pen and then scatter sand on it to soak up excess ink. And then use melted wax and a seal.

So one of my friends posted on the insta “fuck Joe Biden” and I casually comment as a joke that I can’t comment on the image. He says to me in a pm “fuck Joe Biden,” calls me a lockstepping centrist, that Joe has been credibly accused of sexual assault and has a problematic past as well as a degenerating brain, and said Bernie was the best choice. He then stated that there are discrepancies between info gathered at exit polls and the votes themselves. He then said he was done with the DNC and is not a vote blue no matter who guy

I had to remind him that Bernie suspended his campaign but that his name still appears on the ballot. Also had to remind him that the DNC rules were rewritten with input by Bernie and his followers.
I then had to remind him that my shit was hitched to Warren’s campaign as she was better than others, and that there were better candidates in the DNC field than two old white men.

My question is the stuff he is spewing. Has there been any validity to the statements he has made? I figure he is just angey that his nominee wasnt chosen…again.

Others have commented further in depth on the rape allegation - and it looks to be on very hazy ground. The other allegations are pretty much standard crap tossed at Democrat candidates (see 2016) concerning health, competency, etc. etc.

Your friend sounds like they are just dredging for reasons to not vote for the Democrat in the election at this point without admitting that failing to do so is essentially supporting the continuation of the Trump shit show. Or not wanting to say they want the Trump shit show to continue for whatever reason.

How does the US compare vs the EU as a whole? Wouldn’t that be more of an apples to apples comparison as far as population numbers go? Also, unfortunately also comparable in disparity between response between member states.

I would just like to point out that Germany, with a population of nearly 83 million, has fewer cases and fatalities than New York State, with a population of less than 20 million

Not really, no. Joe likes to hug and touch people, which makes some people uncomfortable, but the only assault charge comes from a Putin fan. No reason to think he has a brain problem either; certainly not on Trump’s level.

So we are basically locked down until there is a countrywide vaccine available to all (for basic crap) …..a year from now, winter if we are hasty.

The good news is that Trump will do anything to try and save the economy/election. The only bright spot in this pandemic is that it is happening in an election year.

a quick and effective test would be a good start, a cure or effective treatment would also be good but a vaccine looks like it is absolutely necessary as “herd immunity” is not going to work with this one…

Though apparently a “quick and effective test” will probably be immediately seized by the Federal government, monetized for a Trump donor/lackey to profit from, and then doled out based on who is kissing Trump’s butt at the time. Which will not help get the country back on its feet anywhere near as quickly.

Yeah I did a serious “Really dude” when my childhood best friend told me Biden was senile and I should check out YouTube which includes altered videos to make Biden look off. I’ve been watching quite a bit of Biden since I decided to vote for him in the Va primary. I’d prefer a younger candidate but he’s not senile and nor does he have dementia. As I said, that one really angers me having witnessed dementia. I’ll never forget my Nana telling my Dad she was glad she married him, 23 years after my grandfather passed. Nana had been one of my first babysitters and made me a photo album of my first two years. Seeing her get dementia was tough. It’s not a cheap political joke. Yeah I worried about Bernie’s age too but that’s because a 79 year old heart attack survivor with imo poor political delegation skills would be a bad potus.

re: #127 mmmirele

Fuck.

*And, theoretically, there’s been an FDA approved generic for nearly three years, but it’s still unavailable.

you may have already tried this, but the thing that finally killed my acid reflux was elevating the head of my bed by about 3-4 inches. I apparently have a ridiculously cheap grease trap installed in the esophagus, so that’s the only thing that keeps the acid from coming up. Still, it works! Two weeks or so after I did this, I stopped needing Pepcid, stopped having moments driving around in sales where I thought someone was pushing a knife through my chest.

re: #214 Targetpractice

Thanks for posting that article. I’m curious to see how this is going to fly on the one far-left site I still check in with. They’re already making noises about not voting because two rapists running are running for POTUS. Fear of re-infection in recovered patients is also growing in China, where the virus first emerged last December, after reports that some tested positive again — and even died from the disease — after supposedly recovering and leaving hospital. There’s little understanding of why this happens, although some believe that the problem may lie in inconsistencies in test results.

The one day positive and the next day negative (within 24 hours), to me, is a problem with testing. But we’ll see.

Considering the unreliability of many of the tests exported out of China, yes, if you mistakenly test positive and then recover from whatever else you had, then really get COVID, you’re going to see this.

Fucking children…we weren’t wrong, you were wrong.

Also known as, “Why didn’t you save us from ourselves?”

Also, too, the mortality rate is running well north of the 3.2% WHO estimate, so maybe they were wrong there. I don’t want hear about a sub 1% mortality rate until that shit is proven with testing somewhere.

I think the mortality rate is lower than what the data might suggest because a lot of countries are doing sporadic testing focusing only on those who are seriously ill with symptoms. Obviously, a fair percentage of those people will probably die. The lack of testing combined with the fact it appears there are large number of asymptomatic carriers out there also tells me the death rate is probably lower than what can be determined based on current data.

But we still need to take this shit VERY seriously.

I still think this is largely due to issues with testing. Potentially worrying, but we really need more data to know for certain if this is happening or not.

Testing, data, and analyses are a threat to the Trump re-election. Those who will profit from it will gladly sabotage the efforts.

(Via CBS)MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Easter Sunday will look a bit different in the Mid-South as local leaders urge residents to worship online or in the privacy of their own homes during the coronavirus pandemic.

On one of the biggest church-going weekends of the year, Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves wants people to worship and celebrate Easter at home. But ultimately, Gov. Reeves left the choice up to the people.

“In America and Mississippi, we’re not going to be the kind of government that shuts down worships,” he said.

After issuing his stay-at-home order, the governor called church leaders, who were resisting the change to let them know the order is temporary and only being issued to protect worshipers.

“I’ll be willing to cancel my service on Easter Sunday to give you that time until the 20th,” said Stanley Searcy pastor of the New Hope Vision Center in Natchez, Mississippi. “We don’t want to see any more Mississippians die.”

In Memphis, Mayor Jim Strickland, who previously called for harsher restrictions in neighboring counties, also asked residents to stay home due to safety concerns.

“It’s the right thing to do to protect our citizens and your congregation,” Strickland said. “This Easter, this Passover, we must come together to stay apart.”

After the latest pleas from government officials, it’s difficult to find any churches still planning to hold typical services.

Leaders hope Easter and the spiritual theme of loving one’s neighbor will transcend the global pandemic.

I have to say I am a bit surprised at this. I figured a lot of churches in this state would be all “Screw you, we’re still having Easter services!” but it looks like most of them realize this is serious and are responding appropriately.

Not bad for one of the most conservative states in the nation.

Too bad he was, or at least should have been, dead wrong. Treating them like rebels had historically been treated would likely have led to a LOT less PoC pain in the next century. Arguably the remainder of history, depending on if the Black person you ask thinks #CRAct worked.

The North was also fed up with the war and just wanted to put it all behind them and move on. “Reconciliation” was their main priority, even if it meant turning a blind eye to the way that the newly-freed slaves were being treated.

Vital Coronavirus Information Is Failing the Blind and Visually Impaired [VICE]

Several times a day, I search for coronavirus updates online, an increasingly grim and unconscious habit I’ve adopted over the last few weeks from the confines of my New York City apartment. I’m met with a barrage of charts, infographics, and transcripts of news conferences. I’m able to grasp the harrowing reality we’re in with just a few clicks. But for the blind and visually impaired communities, information from the government and news sources remains largely inaccessible, and in the midst of a global pandemic, this isn’t merely an inconvenience, it’s a fatal negligence.

There’s no shortage of news on the crisis, but it’s these charts and other data visualizations that we’ve all gravitated toward to easily absorb the state of the virus, our healthcare system, and our communities. But these graphs and spatial data we’re all obsessed with aren’t designed and published in a way that is accessible to blind people—and creating a tactile version of these charts, as stands, requires an accessible media specialist and access to expensive machinery.

it will not happen, any economist will tell you that

people are going to avoid crowded concert and sports venues, theme parks, cineplexes, cruise ships, airports and airliners.

demand will be down everywhere as people are struggling just to cover basic expenses

nobody will want to risk expanding or creating new jobs

Bernie Bros hated her and called her the C-word. They are a fucking cult of personality. Asshats looking for a “ruler” to fix everything from the top because they, like the MAGAts think that’s how it works.

It probably is. I am just sick of the predominantly right wingers who blithely assert that it is less than 1% (even as low as .2% and thus in line with all viruses) when that hasn’t been shown to be true anywhere in the real world. The fact is, we probably won’t ever know what the real mortality rate was, given evidence that China may have (and may still be) dramatically undercounting deaths, and there is a very good chance our death totals have been undercounted by thousands.

the wonderful thing about ‘absentee ballots’ is that they are on paper.
the entire election is fully documented.
if you think there’s fraud, it should be easy to prove.

and let’s be clear, there’s only a couple of aspects of fraud
- someone else voted a person’s ballot
- a person who was not allowed to vote somehow received a ballot and voted it

signature mis-matching, issues with legit identification etc are not fraud issues

nor are they qualification issues
they are compliance issues

if the state cant ascertain whether someone has the right to vote, that doesnt mean they dont, nor should that be the default position

An epidemiologist has broken down why deliberately getting infected with the coronavirus in a bid to become immune after recovery is a “really horrible idea right now.”

“It is all about how much we just don’t know yet,” warned Greta Bauer, a professor of epidemiology and biostatistics at Western University in London, Ontario, in a column for The New York Times published Wednesday.

Bauer listed seven reasons why people should not attempt to contract the virus on purpose, noting how some people have considered avoiding social distancing or hosting parties where they can expose themselves to the disease.

Immunity “isn’t a sure thing” and “reinfection could be possible,”
Bauer said.

I feel you. I was theoretically under control on Aciphex (though possibly needing some Reglan to always clear the esophagus), but my insurer for the past three years feels that there are so many over the counter PPIs already that it has taken all prescription acid reflux controllers off the formulary. And I haven’t been able to afford that so I’ve just allowed the erosion to get worse since then because it didn’t seem they had an appeal process (especially since this was a marketplace plan and thus likely inherently-inferior to an employer one anyway).

I doubt it. Insurance companies are the absolute devil, and all of us have to bow and scrape to them. Like every other system in the US, the health system is designed to take as much public money as possible and give it to rich people. The only reason anyone is actually helped by the healthcare system at all is because doctors and nurses give a shit.

I’m sorry your insurance company has, once again, prioritised its profits over your health. That is our reality. I hope this crisis provides an opportunity to change it.

I have a scrip for Reglan as well, not so much for the esophagus, but to get my stomach digesting. (I once was strapped to a narrow board inside a PET scanner while a bored technician tried to figure out how long it was taking my stomach to digest a radioactive egg, that would be 2 hours.) I try not to take it unless I absolutely have to, because tardive dyskinesia is a nasty side effect. So I eat smallish meals and try to stop early so that my stomach has enough time to digest before bed.

When I had a gap in prescriptions (again, due to the doctor not responding to a request for a refill) and tried to take OTC Nexium. NOPE.

A little dispatch from France… In th elast few days, I’ve been battling what might have been a moderate case of Covid-19 (many symptoms in line with this - but there is another possibility, I won’t get into the details here..). Anyways, whatever it was, I’m now recovering well…

I wanted to add my 2-cents to the choloroquine debate. Didier Raoult who is pushing it in France has a questionable character, but he is no quack doctor - in fact he is a leading virologist and infectiologist since the 80s, with quite a few major discoveries to his name (he had a part in the discovery of megaviruses), and his institute in Marseille is a major research center in the field. But even he is not claiming chloroquine would be a miracle cure: what he is advocating in in fact a much larger protocol of widespread testing and early detection on cases, and antiviral treatment of early cases right from the onset of symptoms and ideally even before. It might really work when done this way - in fact Raoult’s institute developed the tests and ramped up its testing capability early on, and it does seem to bear fruit. After the SARS epidemic in 2003, Raoult was commissioned by the governement to write a report, and the preparedness policy he avocated back then makes much sense: equip major hospitals in every region of France with a dedicated institute for infectious diseases in order to quickly detect the first cases of an epidemic and produce accurate tests as soon as a new infectious agent is suspected - and then do contact-tracing. If this report had been heeded back then, things could be rather different now.
So in the end chloroquine might well be proven to work, but in any case ONLY at the early stages of the illness and in conjunction with a robust testing and case-tracking policy - and this is definitely NOT what Trump is doing.

re: #459 Yeah Sure WhatEVs

They were gonna vote for trump no matter then. The vast majority will not.

today’s electoral-vote.com

However, Joe Biden’s advisers believe Biden will have an easier job than did Clinton. First, Biden has already incorporated some of Sanders’ ideas into his program, such as raising the minimum wage and free college for families making under $125,000. When talking to Sanders’ supporters, he can point out that Sanders had many good ideas and he is adopting some of them. Clinton never really did that, beyond coming quite late to the $15/hour-minimum-wage party.

Second, the primaries this year were far less contentious than in 2016. Biden has gone to enormous lengths to praise Sanders, complimenting his passion and tenacity. Nor did Biden even suggest that Sanders should leave the race, so the Senator’s supporters may ultimately be persuaded Sanders left because the situation was hopeless, not because Biden and the DNC forced him out.

Third, Democrats really, really hate Donald Trump. Many of Sanders’ supporters believe that a second Trump term would devastate the country, so they may be willing to hold their noses and vote for Biden. In 2016, most of them thought Clinton would win and they wanted to send her a message. It didn’t quite work out. This time many fewer Democrats are going to vote for Trump to send the Democrats a message thinking that Biden will win anyway.

One thing Biden can do is focus on issues that excite Sanders’ base…Biden can probably put together a platform that has enough progressive planks in it to keep the kids from jumping ship en masse, without scaring moderates.

The tee shirt one is the easiest. Cut 5” of the bottom of a thick tee shirt, slicer open one end, tire it around your face. You can get dance and cut a big U out of it so you have actual ties but it’s not needed. Heck, cut the bottom off the tee shirt and use two rubber bands with the band folded in three.

If anyone needs a pattern I’ll draw it up. Only a scissors is needed for the most basic mask.

I’ve been trying to dig up anywhere fatalities are dramatically reduced with the use of quinine compounds. With Tamiflu, even though only 30% to 40% effective the results show up fast in any cohort including a placebo. Or any metadata study looking back where it is used. Of course it has to be given early.

Methinks it’s not working nearly as well as even Tamifu. This link makes it easier to track ongoing studies. clinicaltrials.gov

It’s times like these where I just want to sit in a kiddie pool and eat a hot fudge sundae with nuts.

Particularly when the federal gov’t has done nothing to help. It hasn’t issued a national stay at home order. No intranational travel restrictions. Limited restrictions on international travel. Complete clusterfuck in terms of obtaining/distributing PPE, ventilators, etc. etc.

It’s been state, county, and city officials that have gotten this done in spite of the federal gov’t.

My knowledge of the Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, and Arabic languages is practically non-existent. But could someone tell me where in the Torah, Talmud, Gospels, Quran, there is a discussion of hydroxychloroquine and how it is a holy sacrament? Or is that only in the church of Trump which demands both financial and human sacrifice to sustain it?

This is a big part of why I’m still doing my own grocery shopping. Saving delivery slots for those who really can’t go out for whatever reason.

Cats can catch coronavirus, study finds, prompting WHO investigation

Fits right in with my comments on zoonotic diseases.

(Reuters) - Cats can become infected with the new coronavirus but dogs appear not to be vulnerable, according to a study published on Wednesday, prompting the WHO to say it will take a closer look at transmission of the virus between humans and pets.

nope. trumps ‘feelings’ arent any kind of valid criteria

I bet an army of insurance companies are going to have a say in whether or not Trump opens up the economy or not. -especially with the common knowledge that exposure at a workplace could really make for an interesting series of lawsuits. ..and wrongful termination suits as well for workers who refuse to report for work.

re: #438 makeitstop

If someone 10 years ago were to tell you that a sitting President wrote that letter you would be laughed right out of any civilized discussion.

“No way a 3rd Grader-level intellect could ever win the Presidency.” -any sane person.

What a fucking embarrassment this guy is.
